Workshop Proposals

Goal

The 2012 International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE) Workshops provide a forum for a group of 20-50 participants to discuss topics in software engineering research and practice. ICSE Workshops will provide opportunities for researchers to exchange and discuss scientific and engineering ideas at a stage before they have matured to warrant conference or journal publication. ICSE Workshops also serve as incubators for scientific communities that form and share a particular research agenda. ICSE workshops can produce workshop proceedings to be published in the ACM Digital Library.

Scope

ICSE 2012 Workshops may be either one or two days long and may be held before or after the main conference. Participation in ICSE workshops is typically open.

Evaluation

Workshop proposals will be reviewed by the ICSE 2012 Workshop Committee according to the following criteria:

  • Workshop's potential to advance the state of software engineering research and/or practice
  • Timeliness of and expected interest in the workshop topics
  • Organizers' experience and ability to lead a successful workshop
  • Balance and synergy among all ICSE 2012 events

Format of Workshop Proposals

Proposals must not exceed four pages in length, must follow the IEEE conference proceedings format, and must include the following information, in the order specified:

  • full contact information for all organizers of the workshop and main contact person;
  • desired length of the workshop (i.e., one or two days);
  • desired workshop date(s) and scheduling constraints (workshops can be scheduled before or after the main conference);
  • outline of the themes and goals of the workshop, including a brief abstract (less than 200 words) intended for the ICSE 2012 web site;
  • concise motivation of the workshop's relevance to the field of software engineering;
  • participant solicitation and selection process, including whether the workshop will be open or closed;
  • desired minimum and maximum number of workshop participants, expected number of participants, and (in case of previously held workshops) number of registered attendees and web site for previous editions of the workshop;
  • structure of the workshop and plans for generating and stimulating discussion;
  • links to preliminary web site of the workshop and call for papers;
  • list of program committee members, including proposed and committed members;
  • brief description of each organizer's background, including relevant past experience in organizing conferences and workshops.

We strongly encourage the organizers to communicate the topic of their workshop to the workshop co-chairs by e-mail as early as possible, so that we can recognize and resolve topic conflicts and overlaps before the proposal submission deadline.

Finally, in preparing their workshop proposals and organizing their event, workshop organizers should keep in mind the following constraints:

  • Mandatory deadlines:
    • Paper submissions: February 17, 2012
    • Notification of authors: March 20, 2012
    • Camera-ready copies: March 30, 2012
  • Workshop papers must follow the ICSE 2012 Format and Submission Guidelines and must have a maximum length of seven (7) pages.
  • ICSE 2012 will not pay for registration, travel, or other arrangements for workshop organizers or any of their invited speakers or guests. All participants, including workshop organizers, keynote speakers, and invited guests, must register for the workshop.

How to Submit

Proposals must include the following information, in the order specified:

  • full contact information for all organizers of the workshop and main contact person;
  • desired length of the workshop (i.e., one or two days);
  • desired workshop date(s) and scheduling constraints (workshops can be scheduled before or after the main conference);
  • outline of the themes and goals of the workshop, including a brief abstract (less than 200 words) intended for the ICSE 2012 web site;

  • brief description of each organizer's background, including relevant past experience in organizing conferences and workshops.

All proposals must conform at time of submission to the ICSE 2012 formatting and submission instructions, and must not exceed 4 pages, including all text, references, appendices and figures.

Papers must be submitted electronically by the stated deadline.

  • ICSE 2012 will not pay for registration, travel, or other arrangements for workshop organizers or any of their invited speakers or guests.
  • All participants, including workshop organizers, keynote speakers, and invited guests, must register for the workshop.
  • For all workshops, ICSE 2012 will enforce uniform deadlines for workshop paper submission, notification of authors, and camera-ready copies (see mandatory deadlines in the section on formatting proposals above).
