How to Submit
Please prepare your paper according to the formatting instructions given below. If you are using LaTeX, make sure that the "compsocconf" option is set and that you are using the right IEEEtran class (see "Important note for LaTeX users" below.
When your paper is finished, submit it using the links to the submission gates at the bottom of this page.
ICSE 2012 Submission and Formatting Instructions
General Submission Requirements
Papers submitted to ICSE 2012 must not have been published elsewhere and must not be under review or submitted for review elsewhere while under consideration for ICSE 2012.
ACM plagiarism policies and procedures shall be followed for cases of double submission.
All submissions must be in English.
Paper Preparation and Formatting
All papers must conform, at time of submission, to the IEEE Computer Society Formatting Guidelines. Please use either the Word Template or the LaTeX package provided by IEEE CS. (In some browsers, an empty page will display when clicking these links. Nevertheless, the documents will download; check your download folder.) Make sure that you use US letter page format (don't use A4!). Submissions must be in PDF format. Author names and affiliations shall not be suppressed on the title page of the paper.
Papers, when properly formatted, must not exceed the size limits stated for the paper categories as follows:
Paper category |
| Size Limits |
---|---|---|
Technical research papers | 10 pages for all text, appendices and figures; and up to one additional page for the list of references only | |
Software engineering in practice papers | Full papers: 10 pages; goldfish bowl proposals: 2 pages; business plans: 10 pages; mini tutorial proposals: 4 pages; master class proposals: 2 pages | |
Software engineering education papers | Full papers: 10 pages; short papers: 4 pages; both is meant including all text, references, appendices and figures | |
Formal demonstrations | 4 pages, including all text, references, appendices and figures | |
Posters and informal demonstration | See Call for contributions | |
New ideas and emerging results papers | 4 pages, including all text, references, appendices and figures | |
Doctoral symposium submissions | 4 pages, including all text, references, appendices and figures |
|
ACM student research competition submissions | 2 pages for all text, appendices and figures; and up to one additional page for the list of references only | |
Workshop proposals | 4 pages, including all text, references, appendices and figures |
|
Tutorial and technical briefing proposals | One page, see Call for Contributions |
Note that camera-ready copies will have the same formatting and size requirements. Thus, your submission should reflect the form that you anticipate your camera-ready copy will take.
Important note for LaTeX users: 1. Make sure that the "compsocconf" option is enabled in your LaTeX document as follows: \documentclass[10pt, conference, compsocconf]{IEEEtran}. 2. Some LaTeX editors (for example, TeXLive 2010) use a version of the IEEEtran class which has the same version number (1.7a) as the one provided by IEEE CS on their website, but different content. In this case, the IEEEtran class provided on the IEEE CS web site shall be used. You can easily test whether you got it right: if LaTeX typsets the title of your paper in 14 pt font, you are fine. If, however, the title is typset in 24 pt font, you are using the wrong version of the IEEEtran class or haven't enabled the "compsocconf" option. Use the template found in the IEEE CS LaTeX package as is and direct your editor to use the IEEEtran class contained in this package.
Non-Conforming Submissions
Submissions that do not comply with the foregoing instructions and size limits will be desk rejected without review.
Where to Submit
Papers must be submitted electronically through the ICSE 2012 submission site (see table below).
All submission deadlines are 23:59:59 UTC/GMT - 11 hours (= Pago Pago, American Samoa time). Here you can find your local time for the four ICSE 2012 submission deadlines:
29 Sep 2011 -- 27 Oct 2011 -- 1 Dec 2011 -- 17 Feb 2012.
If you submit no later than on the day of the deadline, 23:59 your local time, you will always be on the safe side: there is no time zone worldwide in which a day ends later than in Pago Pago.
ICSE 2012 uses Precision for managing all submissions except workshop proposals, tutorial / technical briefing proposals, and ACM Student Research Competition submissions, which are managed in EasyChair. Before making a submission, you'll need to create an account first and enter your personal data. (If you already have an account from a previous submission, you can use your existing account. However, please update your personal data before submitting). Not only the submitting author, but also all co-authors should have an account. When you (and your co-authors) have an up-to-date account, log in and submit. In Precision, choose new submissions and then choose the track you want to submit to. In EasyChair, choose New Submission.
Before submitting, please verify that your paper is properly formatted according to the ICSE 2012 formatting instructions stated above. If you are using LaTeX for preparing your paper, particularly make sure that the "compsocconf" option is enabled in your document and that you have used the right IEEEtran class (see "Important note for LaTeX users" above).

Accepted Contributions
All authors of accepted papers will be asked to complete an IEEE Copyright form and will receive further instructions for preparing their camera ready versions. At least one author of the paper must register for ICSE 2012 in Zurich and present the paper at the conference. There will be no discounted registration fees for authors of accepted papers.
All accepted contributions will be published in the conference electronic proceedings which will also be available as printed proceedings.
