Semantics: the business technology disruptor of the future

Abstract : Semantics has a vital role to play in bringing meaning to business data. In this talk I will show how semantic technology can help solve the modern data complexity, integration and flexibility issues for business computing technologies, both from a technical and psychological perspective and suggest some challenges and opportunities for further research and collaboration.

Biography: Dougal is the Director and CTO of Meaningful Technology, a Platform as a service business predicated on the use of semantic web and graph technologies. He is qualified as an Open Group Distinguished Chief Architect, IBM Certified Executive IT Information Architect and IBM Certified Enterprise Architect, and has authored several patents: Governing Information, Pattern Based Behaviour Model for System Management, and the pending: Ontologically-driven Business Model System and Method.

Prior to starting Meaningful Technology, Dougal was Chief Technologist for IBM NZ, for nearly 8 years and the co-chair for NZ on the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Industry Consortium, a billion dollar global science project. He has a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from Auckland University, New Zealand.
