Getting Around Auckland

Public Transport

Auckland’s public transport network is a great way to get around the city. From Britomart, the central transport centre, delegates can travel by train or bus to most major attractions in Auckland.

Tours and hop-on, hop-off buses

Joining a tour lets you see the sights in comfort, while local guides share inside knowledge about our landmarks, heritage and culture. Ferries

Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour and Hauraki Gulf are full of breathtaking sights and natural wonders. From short sightseeing trips to full-day island tours, ferries are a great way to explore harbourside suburbs and Auckland’s nautical playground. More details.

Driving

With an excellent motorway network, driving is a popular choice for anyone keen to discover more of Auckland and New Zealand. We’ve got lots of rental car companies to choose from – including the main international brands – offering everything from standard sedans and hatchbacks to motorhomes and motorcycles. Most major rental car companies have depots at Auckland Airport and in central Auckland.

In New Zealand, we drive on the left. Visitors from some countries may need a bit of adjustment, but for others, you’ll feel right at home.

You can legally drive in Auckland and New Zealand for up to 12 months per visit, with either a current driver’s licence from your home country or an International Driving Permit (IDP). Make sure you have these organised before you arrive in New Zealand – check who can drive and what you’ll need on the NZ Transport Agency website.
