AI Knocked to the Industry’s Door: Which is the Role of the PhD?

Abstract: The last lustrum changed the perspective of being a research scientist with respect to the past.
We observed an important migration of researchers from academic venues to industry ones.
This trend is not only related to big players like Google, Facebook, or Amazon, just for mentioning the most famous ones, but it involves also small-medium enterprises playing important roles in the applications of Artificial Intelligence solutions into real-world problems.
In this panel, we will discuss if the attention given by the industry to the academic field affected the research methodologies, the topics, and the expectations of PhD programs.
