Research Papers

The ISWC 2011 research track solicits the submission of original research papers dealing with analytical, theoretical, empirical, and practical aspects of all areas of Semantic Web research. Papers in the research track are expected to clearly present their contribution and to provide some principled means of evaluation. We especially encourage papers that ensure the repeatability of their experiments and share with the community their data and test harnesses.

Semantic Web In Use

Submissions to the ISWC In-Use track may employ scientific methods (qualitative and/or quantitative) to understand in greater detail the deployment of semantic technologies (online or offline), or present novel practical approaches that are relevant to the deployment of semantics but may not otherwise gain an outlet in the ISWC series. Papers will be evaluated on how the use of semantic technologies impacts and provides utility to a distributed base of users.

Industry Track

The International Semantic Web Conference (ISWC 2011), the world’s leading Semantic Web research conference,  is hosting an Industry Track to invite the business community to present products and services that leverage Semantic Web technologies and/or enrich the Semantic Web ecosystem. The International Semantic Web Conference  is the premiere networking conference for the professional and academic research community. Industry Track demonstrates the most recent evolution of Semantic Web technologies and applications development & research to a wider audience. We invite industry vendors to submit short proposals for this track.

Outrageous Ideas Track

At ISWC2011 we celebrate the 10th anniversary of this conference. As part of the celebration we would like to look into future long-term challenges and opportunities in the "Outrageous Ideas" track in cooperation with the Computing Community Consortium (CCC). We solicit unconventional and innovative ideas that identify new research opportunities in this field. This track is designed to overcome the constraints of the traditional review process, and will serve as an incubator for innovative approaches, risky architectures and provocative ideas as a way to look at the next 10 years outside of current mainstream research in the field. Submissions will be judged on the extent to which they expand the possibilities and horizons of the field. After a reviewing procedure, runner-up papers will be selected for presentation at the conference. Based on PC and audience votes three winners will be finally selected for the prizes.

Posters and Demos

We invite submissions relevant to the area of the Semantic Web and which address, but are not limited to, the topics of the Research Track and the Semantic Web In Use Track. Technical posters, reports on Semantic Web software systems, descriptions of completed work, and work in progress are all welcome. Demonstrations are intended to showcase innovative Semantic Web related implementations and technologies. All submissions are intended to convey a scientific result or work in progress and should not be advertisements for commercial software packages.

Semantic Web Challenge

Submissions are now invited for the 9th annual Semantic Web Challenge, the premier event for demonstrating practical progress towards achieving the vision of the Semantic Web. The central idea of the Semantic Web is to extend the current human-readable Web by encoding some of the semantics of resources in a machine-processable form. Moving beyond syntax opens the door to more advanced applications and functionality on the Web. Computers will be better able to search, process, integrate and present the content of these resources in a meaningful, intelligent manner.

2nd Linked Data-a-thon

The main goal of the Linked Data-a-thon competition is to develop innovative applications that showcase the benefits of Linked Data ... in two weeks! The spirit of this competition is to demonstrate what is possible with Linked Data, even in a short amount of time. The competition starts on October 1, 2011, and it closes 14 days later, on October 15, 2011. During this time each participating team works locally or remotely to develop a Linked Data based application that satisfies the requirements listed below. To enforce the spontaneous, hackathon-like nature of this competition, the applications must satisfy additional requirements that will be announced on October 1, 2011. Anybody can participate in this event and the submitted applications will be presented at the Linked Data gathering during ISWC 2011.
