Explain usually comes with preposition "to", never with a prepositional pronoun (as in German)

Wrong: Can you explain me the concept?
Right: Can you explain the concept to me?

lend vs. borrow

Alice gives the book to Bob.
Alice lends the book to Bob.
Bob takes the book from Alice.
Bob borrows the book from Alice.

shortly vs. briefly, quickly

Wrong: I talked to him shortly.
Right: I talked to him briefly.
Right: I talked to him shortly before he left.
Shortly only used in conjunction with time!

Ms. vs. Mrs.

Mrs. Schmidt: only if you know for sure that Mrs. Schmidt is married
Ms. Schmidt: otherwise
