Überblick

Am Tag vor der SI-SE'99 bieten wir als Einstimmung in das Thema zwei Tutorien mit international anerkannten Experten an.

Das erste Tutorium beschäftigt sich mit dem Gebiet der Anforderungsdefinition. Es ist allgemein bekannt, dass die Qualität der Anforderungen der zentrale Faktor für die Qualität der resultierenden Lösung ist. Die von François de Nazelle mitgestaltete Vox Methode, ein Verfahren für das Identifizieren der geheimen Wünsche der Benutzer und ihr Umsetzen in Anforderungen, ist ein nützliches Mittel zur Software-Prozessverbesserung. Vox wurde von Praktikern für die Praxis entwickelt und wurde erfolgreich in etlichen Grossprojekten eingesetzt.

Das zweite Tutorium richtet sich an Leute, die in die Beschaffung von Softwaresystemen involviert sind. Nach einer Einführung in die PROBE-Metode ist aktive Mitarbeit gefragt. Es geht nämlich darum den eigenen Prozess zur Be-schaffung von Informatikmitteln zu analysieren und kritisch zu beleuchten. Die PROBE-Methode ist geeignet für die Untersuchung von Eigenentwicklungen, wie von externen Beschaffungen. Sie skaliert von der Beschaffung von einfachen PC-Anwendungen bis hin zu ganzen betriebswirtschaftlichen Lösung oder einem Leitsystem.

Beide Tutorien werden auf Englisch gehalten.

Management of User Requirements Using the Vox Method

The success of software projects relies on the quality of the requirements. Many existing methods produce high quality requirements specifications designed to be reliable references for development. Nonetheless these requirements fail frequently to meet actual user expectations.

The Vox method, a customization of the SHIBA approach for software, has been designed to manage user expectations throughout the software life cycle. The Vox method has been tested with success on different projects: bank, air traffic control, museum applications.

The tutorial consists of three parts:

The requirements problems: weaknesses of existing methods
Presentation of the Vox method, step by step
Lessons learned from the experimentation: strength and weaknesses of the Vox method.

The Vox method was developed within the SQUARE project partially funded by the European Commission.

Tutorial II: PROBE: Benchmarking your IT Acquisition Process

This tutorial in form of a workshop is targeted at assisting organisations to better manage their IT and software systems procurements through the use of best practices, standards and tools.

Following practical information through brief presentations about improving IT purchasing practices, a workshop based acquisition process assessment will be performed with workshop attendees self-assessing their own organisation's acquisition practices.

The assessment will be performed using the very latest PROBE self-assessment software-based tool and mentored by the workshop tutor. PROBE assessments are designed to be completed in a workshop environment in around two hours. Following the workshop each organisation will receive a complete assessment report delivered personally and confidentially to the workshop attendee.

At the end of the year, when over 100 assessments have been completed across Europe, attendees will receive a free European benchmark report. Standards and best practice in procurement are essential for the improvement of procurement processes across Europe. By providing organisations with a benchmark of European procurement processes and practices, the PROBE project will help organisations identify improvement areas. Additionally organisations will have access to a repository of best practice case studies on successful procurement process improvements that will enable them to prioritise and manage their procurement activities.

PROBE assessments are conformant with the requirements of the emerging ISO/IEC 15504 standard on process assessment.

The PROBE project is partially funded by the European Commission through the SPRITE S2 Programme Project No. 98/502056.
