Track 1: IT in Services

Services are not only offered by traditional service industries (like financial services or professional service firms). An increasing number of goods producers transform their offerings into product bundles that comprise services. Offering services means to incorporate customers into the production - and maybe also the construction - processes. As a consequence, information systems in service industries do not only aim at increasing efficacy and efficiency of production processes. Moreover, the integration of customers, the holistic coverage of customer needs, and the customization of services become critical. Examples for such information systems are customer relationship management systems for financial service providers, differentiating mashups and web 2.0 technologies for tourisms information systems, integrated campus management systems in higher education and agile software development. The increased importance and utilization of information systems in services also leads to more sophisticated requirements by corporate customers and by consumers likewise. Such requirements are closely linked to business innovations which again might create novel requirements for supportive information systems. Information systems and services are closely interlinked – a recent example is the fact that not only IT processes, but also software itself is available as a service.

We call for original and innovative contributions that investigate the intertwining of services and information systems. We also welcome submissions that address recent challenges like the financial crisis, healthcare issues, or public administration. Additional fields of interest are fundamental issues like the industrialization of financial services, in- and outsourcing, regulatory compliance, integration management, as well as pricing and charging of software on demand.
